Reykjanes Peninsula and Gullfoss & Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik Iceland
Reykjanes Peninsula and Gullfoss & Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik Iceland Reykjanes Peninsula and Gullfoss & Geysir Express Tour from Reykjavik Iceland -- This combination of tours is for those that don't have too much time but still want to make the most of it. After leaving the capital we head for the Reykjanes peninsula where the Atlantic ridge rises above the ocean. The peninsula is almost completely covered with old lava flows and you will see lava combs and craters of different size and shapes as well as the tectonic plates. We head for the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula. This is a magnificent area with rich bird life, and at Eldey Island which is just outside the shore there is one of the world's biggest breeding colony of the Northern Gannet.

You can hear the surf crashing at at the beautiful basaltic cliffs. It's simply magical! We continue to the lava fields to the fishing village Grindavik, with its numerous fish processing factories and sheltered harbour entrance. After a short stop by the Blue Lagoon we continue to Reykjavik and from there towards the Golden Circle. We will travel to some of the most exiting natural phenomena Iceland has to offer. We visit Thingvellir, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was established in 930 and Christianity was adopted in year 1000. Geographically it is unique since here the tectonic plates meet, that is America and Europe, and it is on a constant move. In August 2004 Thingvellir was added to UNESCO?s World Heritage List. From there we continue to view the majestic and beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, the incredible spouting hot spring of Geysir and Strokkur and the immensely powerful old implosion crater, Kerid. We proceed to Hveragerdi, a horticultural area where you will see how geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation. In these large greenhouses various types of vegetables, exotic fruits and colourful flowers are grown. On our way back we travel through a highly mountainous region back to the capital. We reserve the rights to alter or change the itinerary according to weather and road conditions. Tour Highlights
